The Parador in Zamora is the former palace of the counts of Alba de Aliste, a beautiful 15th century Renaissance palace built in the center of the old city.
All through our travels we found the Duero or one of its tributaries – Soria, Avila, Salamanca – and now we had the Duero in Zamora.

The Cathedral in Zamora stands on the end of the promontory, overlooking the River Duero. We visited last year but I was keen to visit again. Buildings like this are very complex and you can always find something โnewโ.
A motorway leads from Salamanca to Zamora but we decided on a quieter road via Ledesma.

We didn’t have enough time in Salamanca and I could have wandered for several more days, exploring the corners in Salamanca.
The Huerta de Calixto y Melibea is a lovely little garden on the walls of Salamanca, round the corner from the cathedrals.
The University of Salamanca dates from 1218 and today the lucky students can work, live and ‘be’ all over this beautiful town.
