We parked at the Church in Weybread, but this easy walk could also begin in Fressingfield. We walked in both directions, over three months, on paths through quiet, farming country with the birds and deer for company.

St Andrew, Weybread, is one of thirty eight round-tower churches in Suffolk – a Mediaeval church which was renovated in Victorian times. The church includes a memorial to Alfred Ablett, Suffolk’s first recipient of the Victoria Cross; there is an amazing wall painting from the 1890s; and beautiful bosses on the ceiling, as well as ‘free’ pews – it is worth lingering.
Walk down the lane from the church, cross the main road, and take the public footpath behind Middleton’s Farm Nurseries, a wonderful, friendly source of beautiful plants. The path leads past holiday cottages and then continues across fields down to Fressingfield.
Fressingfield lies in a river valley and is a fascinating village, with a church dating to 1320s, and a Guildhall, but we didn’t linger…
The path out of Fressingfield is just beyond the Medical Centre. We walked this path in June, and then again at the end of July.
