Primroses crowd into the ditches and field edges now, a beautiful soft yellow, with the flowers on single stems, nestling amongst the leaves. Primula vulgaris.
Except some are darker yellow, with a head of flowers on a long, single stem. Primula elatior?
And this may be an early cowslip? Primula veris?

And some are pink, and these are perhaps a genetic variation rather than the known subspecies?

I would love to hear from you!
