Walking around Flor de Rosa

There is good walking around Flor da Rosa, including a nice circular walk of about an hour from the Pousada and through the tracks along the fields.

Circular walk

The tourist office, conveniently situated in the Pousada of Flor da Rosa may have a little map for this walk which is easy and pleasant, particularly towards the end of the day. The walk starts on the road immediately to the right as you walk out of the Pousada gates. There is also a diversion to a fountain along the way.

There are views in all directions – sheep, grass, wildflowers, cork oaks and olive trees. Lovely.

Roman bridge and road

The track leads downhill on what must have been a Roman track which crosses a small stream over an old bridge.

Prehistoric remains?

After a while all piles of granite seem ‘suspicious’ – could this be a broken Anta?

Flowers and trees

The countryside was covered in wild flowers and this site helped me identify some of them. Strangely I did not see many Cistus plants or even lavender – perhaps we were too early.

Another Roman bridge

And not far away from this walk, and perhaps the same stream that we crossed here, is another Roman bridge, now bypassed with a proper road.

Walking around Flor da Rosa is a joy, particularly in the evening light – what a wonderful place to come and stay and just unwind for a few days.

I would love to hear from you!
