Enjoying food in Leon

We stayed in an AirBnB in Léon and after a day’s walking were too tired to go out for dinner. This didn’t stop us from enjoying food in Leon, particularly as we also wanted to eat rather earlier than the average Spaniard!

We shopped in a nearby Aldi, and a Carrefour Express which did very good bread. On the way into the town was an excellent fish shop which kept me very happy, and then there was the inevitable tortilla, squid or octopus if we had a lunchtime drink, or something sweet to accompany coffee or tea during the day. And of course there was a weekly, outdoor marketwonderful fruit, vegetables, and cheeses. There is no need to go hungry while exploring!

A little snack in the middle of the day might be tasting morcilla, octopus, and ham in the Plaza de San Martin, or a slice of tortilla with something appropriate. It really doesn’t matter where you stop – all the food is good. Of course if the bar or cafe is busy and filled with Spaniards quality is guaranteed!

And finally… I had passed a coffee shop, the Confiterias Calle Ancha, several times and was determined to indulge. That pastry roll was filled with pastry cream and absolutely wonderful and the sponge cake was the ‘tapa’ and came regardless of anything else we ordered! Yes, we did eat it all!

I would love to hear from you!
