Gatwick really has very little to recommend it while waiting for a flight. You can eat (and many people were) and shop (sort of) but the building is not attractive. The BA Lounge (temporary) provided a welcome refuge however and it was a relief to eventually take off from grey and freezing (literally) south east England in anticipation of blue skies and hot sunshine.

We landed smoothly in Cape Town, collected our bags, and the car, and set off… Ah well!

But half an hour later the rain had stopped and my heart lifted at the sight of the mountains – I could almost forget my streaming cold!
