The South Porch of La Martyre

I can’t believe I failed to take a photograph of the South Porch, but I did fail, so here is just a quick taste before I lead you inside.

The South Porch was built in 1480-85 and the carvings are attributed to the workshop of Folgoët. The carvings on the archway are badly eroded, but I could see an Angel bringing the news to Mary, a little lady threshing? playing lacrosse? The Three Kings paying homage to the new baby. And above the arch Mary has just given birth to Jesus and is watched by two delighted cows! The Apostles line the walls on either side of the porch where the ceiling was once painted, but I can’t make out the painted figures.
