Day 13 of Travel in France and we set off for a walk around Vacquières. We headed south from St Hippolyte du Fort through Pompignan, with this lovely view of the valley as you cross over the hills southwards to Claret and Corconne.

Corconne is nestled against the hills, overlooked by its 12C castle, and we caught glimpses of its dramatic setting throughout the walk.

The weather forecasters predicted a very hot day so we decided on an easy amble around Vacquieres, one of the glassmaking villages. The walk was in two parts – wandering through the vineyards and walking across the garrigue.
The vineyards came first!
Vacquiere was first recorded in 1151 and is now a small farming village, with a wine co-op and a wonderful glass maker, Yan Verre (photograph of piece from the website.)

Leaving the village behind we set off into the garrigue.

Lunch!
And so back to the car – it was an unsettled day and at some point the rain was going to catch us!
