A relentlessly busy year has finally stopped and today we set off for France, travelling with Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth to Caen.

On the ferry, watching the cars embark
We passed warships new, and old.

HMS Defender & RFA Argus

HMS Warrior, the first iron-clad warship
And the symbol of Portsmouth – the Emirates (!) Spinnaker.

The Emirates Spinnaker
And then we were in the Solent and heading south.

Spitsand Fort in the Eastern Solent
I wonder why it was named the “The Emirates Spinnaker”??
I didn’t know it was ‘Emirates’ – perhaps they paid for it?
Actually I for one become intrigue by the name and learned something… here’s the news “http://www.thenational.ae/business/aviation/portsmouth-reviews-plans-to-repaint-spinnaker-tower-in-emirates-red-and-white-colours” 🙂 glad that I leaned something from fellow bloggers!
Thank you! Oh dear!
Have a good time!
No garden, no cleaning, no tidying – R&R!
Lovely blue skies there today hope they continue for your French sojourn! You haven’t got a garden there to tend and maintain have you? Have a great break!
