Ferrol to Vilalba

Our original plan was to spend more time in Ferrol, but in January the Parador was fully booked and so we were on the road again – from Ferrol to Vilalba. And when I opened my eyes that morning I knew I was in trouble. The hotel had hosted a very noisy function the night (and early morning) before, leading to a restless and mainly sleepless night for me – a disaster for back pain. As a result, most movements were painful, or brought on muscle spasms. However, we had to move on and so I strapped myself into a lumbar support belt and we set off.

San Xurxo

It was perhaps risky but we decided to look at the coast before we left the area. The roads are good and I had taken plenty of pills as well. San Xurxo is a huge, sandy bay which is apparently very good for windsurfing. It was breathtakingly beautiful.

On the road

And then we had to leave. The motorway is good – they all are – and we drove through wooded, mountainous and very beautiful countryside. There are many sights in this area which would repay a visit… I had read about The Fragas de Eume natural reserve, for example.

Vilalba

Vilalba appeared, perched on a hilltop, and we found our way to the Parador.

I had managed the journey from Ferrol to Vilalba, but not much more. I had a short walk (fifteen minutes) when we arrived and then retired to bed. A sad story.

I would love to hear from you!
