Sunday Flea Market

The Sunday Flea Market is the biggest and busiest in Gijon and it was fun!

After the Civil War it was a cattle market, and villagers also came to sell their produce. In the mid-20th centur it was located in the centre of the town, possibly in the covered market. Nowadays it is a more ‘professional’ affair, with clothing (very nice!), accessories, shoes, fruit and vegetables, cheeses, bread, antiques, bric-a-brac, and so on.

The start of the market

As always, the food stalls were amazing. We came away with a large packet of dried apricots.

The clothing was really nice and I came away quite inspired to ‘do better’ this winter. Spanish women always dress smartly, and in strong, often very bright colours. Here in the UK we tend to be rather dull, I think.

And then there were books, antiques, tools, bric-a-bracelet- just name it, it was there. And look at those piles of wool!

The Sunday flea market was almost enough for the day, apart from a quiet walk in the park.

I would love to hear from you!
