The Parador in Gijon is on the edge of the town, at the far end of the San Lorenzo Beach from the old town. I’ve talked a lot about it so a separate post seemed appropriate.

The Parador

The Parador in Gijon is quite delightful! It is quiet, peaceful and situated in a park, the Isabel la Catolico Park. It is 100 years old and was once a flour mill, one of several on the River Piles. OUr stay here was comfortable and relaxing, helped by good food and courteous and charming staff.

Our bedroom was marvellous – overlooking the park through floor-to-ceiling windows. I could lie on the bed in the afternoon and look out on greenery, and first thing in the morning and last thing at night the egrets departed from or populated the tree in the lake. It looked like a giant magnolia tree!

The beach of San Lorenzo

You can walk out of the Parador, down the Piles River, to the San Lorenzo Beach.

The beach looked very similar at the town end, and was just a well-frequented!

If only we had had another day! There was a wonderful walk along the cliffs[efn_not]https://gijononline.org/the-coastal-walk-of-san-lorenzo/[/efn_note], away from the Parador, the Beach Walk, which goes through parks and past yet more sculptures. We needed more time – and little more fitness – maybe next time?

I would love to hear from you!
