Another day in the Pyrenees

‘Another day in the Pyrenees’ was a gift. It was cold early in the mornings but the temperature rose during the day, and the air was fresh and stimulating, but relaxing.

Walking in the Beech Woods

The woods are thick – pine, beech and fir trees – it must be wonderful as the leaves change colour. We started out on the walk from the car park which goes up to the Cinca River waterfalls, but sadly I couldn’t make it to the end. We have to watch the time as my limit at the moment is c1.5 hours on my feet, and this was also uphill. But we enjoyed what we did see.

I always enjoy walking under the trees, and this was no exception. When there was a break there were views across to the La Larri waterfalls and meadows. The photo is slightly faint – I only had my small camera, the Canon GX MKiii, and it isn’t quite up to long-distance photography. We could hear cow bells and eventually sighted them through the trees. I also found my first autumn crocus. And always the mounts towered above us.

Hermitage of the Virgin

Just before reaching the Parador, there is a small hermitage, the Hermitage of the Virgin. Today’s building dates from the 1800s, but there was a much earlier building on the site.

The walk was good, but it was also good to stop!
