Parador of Santo Domingo

Parador of Santo Domingo de la Calzada

The Parador of Santo Domingo is in the middle of the old town, next to the cathedral, and on the route of the camino. It was a wonderful place in which to live for a few days.

Public rooms

This was the site of San Domingo’s pilgrim hostel and the remains of the old building are obvious in the main entrance hall.

Entrance hall

The entrance hall is divided into corners and cosy sitting areas and it is fun to sit here in the evening and watch people coming and going. The seating is also very comfortable.

Food was good, and there is a separate breakfast room in addition to the restaurant.

Inside the building

The hotel is of course spotlessly clean, and, like most of the paradors, there are lots of interesting corners. There is also a rooftop garden and our room looked out on to the garden.

The town at night

And at night it was easy to stroll round the town after dinner.

The Parador of Santo Domingo, in the centre of the town, is definitely the place to stay and I would happily return.
