It was Day 5 in Brittany – we had completed a walk, found a Neolithic tomb, and now we needed coffee and a church, and found both in Pleyben.
The Parish Enclosures, Enclos Paroissials, are unique to Brittany and extraordinary sights. They consist of four elements: a monumental gateway, the church, a calvary, and an ossuary. The driver was impatient, it was cold, I was just beginning to see what lay in the churches, the camera was the Canon 240SX on automatic (sorry Lydia!) – these are not great photographs, but stay with me – I improved!
Pleyben Church has everything: triumphal arch, two calvaries, sacristy, porch, two towers, decorations, and an ossuary – it deserves a good camera and time.
The Calvary was extraordinary.
The Ossuary was first built in the 15C and restored as a Chapel in the 18C.
I must return one day.
