The Church of Saint Yves in La Roche-Maurice

The Church of Saint Yves was built in the 16C on the site of a 14C Chapel built by the Rohan family, the rulers in the area. From the ruined castle you can look down on the church enclosure in the village below.

The Bell Tower is another of the lofty and elaborate spires associated with these churches.

The Ossuary (1639-40), the former Chapel of St Anne is an elegant building with usual Ankou and figures of local dignitaries carved on the fa̤ade of the building Рa reminder that no-one escapes the Ankou.

But the exterior gives no hint of the riches inside the church – it is one of those buildings where everyone says ‘Wow!’ as they step through the doorway.
