Docklands Gardens south of the Thames, Open Garden Squares Weekend

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

London’s Open Garden Squares Weekend is this weekend, 9 and 10 June, and I have been visiting some of the gardens which will be open over the weekend. If you are in London, or within reasonable travelling distance of London do visit – you won’t be disappointed.

In the 19th century, London was the world’s biggest port and docks lined the River Thames; but in 1960-80 all these docks closed to commercial traffic. Today the Docklands have been imaginatively regenerated.

On the south bank of the River Thames Lavender Pond and Stave Hill are ecology parks in the former Surrey Commercial Docks, and the Garden Barges, boats previously used for river trade, have a new life as homes with amazing gardens.

Downstream you will find the former Surrey Commercial Docks where Lavender Pond is now a Nature Reserve.

And close by is The Shed in the Stave Hill Ecology Park – five acres of woods, wildlife and wild flowers – beautiful!

Do visit over the weekend!

I would love to hear from you!
