Photography Exhibition

posted in: Home, London | 13

I am going to break into posting on Portugal to tell you why I have been so slow.

I have been working really hard to put together a collection of photographs on the theme of Canary Wharf, aka West India Docks on the Isle of Dogs in London. I have tried to present an historical aspect of the area, life today, a series of water reflections, and the flora and fauna and it has been really difficult to create a series which ‘belongs’ together. Here is a taste! Robert Milligan was a wealthy merchant who formed a consortium to build the West India Docks (which opened in 1802) because they were frustrated by the inefficiencies of the existing loading and offloading procedures. The group had a monopoly on trade from the West Indies and made vast sums of money.

Today Canary Wharf is a second ‘city’, continuing to trade but also a fast-growing residential area with schools, shops, and green spaces.

I love playing with the reflections in the docks!

The swans, coots, Canada Geese, and crested grebes breed in the waters every year and one can spend many happy hours watching them or walking in the gardens or Roof Garden above the Crossrail Station.

I hope that the exhibition will surprise people – do visit if you are in Suffolk on 28 April!

A while since I was here too – an examiner’s meeting back in 2010 I believe. The Crossrail roof garden looks wonderful as do all of your photos. Hope you get a good turnout to the exhibition. Sadly a bit far for me to attend.

Wonderful photos, and in a good cause too, I see, Candy. 🙂 🙂 It’s a long time since I was around there and it’s nice to see the changes

Thank you! It was much more difficult than I anticipated and I just hope that people will enjoy the show. Between us we will have nearly 100 photographs on show!

Candy, this is a fabulous collection on a theme about a place. I would love to link this post to my next post on photography themes which will post on May 3. Let me know if you’d like me to do so. 🙂

Be good to link this up Cathy. Candy says yes, but I’m not sure you will see her reply as it was posted as a separate comment.

You are good! I changed the post after the kind offer and added more photographs so that it was more substantial.

I think that is what is so special about the blogging community. Despite hardly ever meeting in real life we do form bonds.

I agree, Jude. We definitely do. I think it comes from sharing more of ourselves than we sometimes do with people in our day-to-day lives.

Hope you like the enlarged version of the post – I think it makes more sense if you decide to add a link to it

I would love to hear from you!
