The time in Brittany was coming to an end and the last walk was around St Barnabé.
The Reserve of the Landes du Cragou is moorland covered in grasses, heather, and gorse – beautiful walking.
The Chapel of St Barnabé, 17C, has rough carvings over the door. There is the date of 1614, a Bishop’s Mitre and hat, and apparently these are the arms of ‘…Mgr. René de Rieux Sourdéac, bishop of Léon in 1613, who was at the same time abbot commendatory of the Relecq, since 1606…’. The sheds alert one to the fact that a Pardon happens here, and then a small sign on the roadside leads along a sunken lane which eventually comes out at the chapel.
Back on the main road we had a last sighting of the chapel as we passed some of the hydrangeas for which Brittany is famous and headed back to the car. The walking in Brittany’s countryside was over for another year.
