On the north coast of Brittany, there are two wonderful gardens: the Jardin Botanique et Exotique in Roscoff, and the Jardin Georges Delaselle on the Île de Batz.
A short, 15-minute ferry trip took us from Roscoff to Porz Kernok on the island where we set off to walk to the gardens, via a cup of coffee – I can’t show you another picture of another cup of coffee!
The Chapel of St Anne is just outside the entrance to the gardens. St Anne is the Patron Saint of the island’s sailors and a ruin is all that remains of a Church built on the site of a 10C monastery founded by St Pol, but destroyed by the Vikings in the 9C.
The Georges Delaselle Gardens ‘grow’ (!) on you as you walk round the site, enjoying the tranquillity of the various ‘rooms’. Here is a little peep – I am going to post more fully on the gardening site.
We saw a group stepping out briskly on the 8-mile coastal hiking trail which would be a fun walk, but sadly we only had time for a little wander along the north coast. Away from the coast the island is farmed with vegetable growing.
And once again back in Roscoff we enjoyed the evening sunshine…

Showing a glass of beer is far preferable to a cup of coffee, but shame about the car park view. And although the 8 mile walk might be tempting I think I’d be hard pushed to move out of those gardens. Look forward to seeing it in full 🙂
