Notre Dame, Le Cloitre St Thegonnec

The current Church of Notre Dame Le Cloître St Thégonnec is said to date from 1710 but I wonder if this is correct – parts of the building seem much older.  Like many of the Parish Enclosures the building was funded by the flax and linen trade and originally was a Priory under the control of the Abbey of Le Relecq.

A curious stone, or perhaps gravestone, lies at the West Door, and leads into an interesting interior: a blue vaulted ceiling, a line of saints on the crossbar, decorated side chapels, painted ceilings, and naughty cherubs on the pulpit!

The simple font has a beautifully carved cover.

Outside the Calvary is simple.

This seems to a straightforward, modest church, with a good atmosphere – peaceful and welcoming – but I am sure that more could be understood and discovered.
