The weather forecast promised another beautiful day and so we set off to explore the Cap Sizun, starting with the Baie des Trépassés, with the Pointe du Raz on one side and the Pointe du Van on the other.
One explanation for the name ‘The Bay of the Dead‘ is that many bodies used to wash up here – the sea around the Brittany coast is dangerous, with hidden rocks and strong currents, and shipwrecks were common. Today this is a good surfing area, albeit dangerous.
On the headland of Pointe du Van the views are awesome! A chapel has looked out to sea since the 13C and today the Chapel of St They, built in the 17C, stands on the same site.
Beautiful! And then we set off to explore the countryside, Pont Croix, and a walk along the Goyen River.
