The stopover in Dinan was not a good experience: finding parking was a nightmare; the hotel was dingy and the room up several flights of stairs; dinner was ok’ish; and the next morning the car battery was flat because I had forgotten the Volvo doesn’t automatically turn off the headlights. On the plus side: I slept well, I was fed, and the RAC produced a mechanic who changed the battery within twenty minutes of a worried phonecall! We drove off – no more sightseeing in Dinan which I am sure would be lovely another time.
The Basilica of St Sauveur was originally built in the 12C by the Lord of Dinan, Sir Rivallon le Roux, in thanks for his safe return after the First Crusade. The Church was then rebuilt and extended in the 15C and 16C.
