Walking around Locqueffret

Another good walk! We followed Wendy Mewes Walk no.18 in Walking & other activities in Finistere, a circular walk from Locqueffret. It was super – easy and with lovely views: c.10kms and 2.5 hours.

We parked outside the Mairie in Locqueffret, a town which has shrunk as time has passed and we didn’t linger at the church! The walk was to be a mix of ‘English country lanes’ and moorland, and half way along an amazing 16C church. We set off down the road and then dived down a green lane – how does Wendy Mewes find these paths?

And so we arrived in Saint-Herbot and the Church of St Peter, started in the 15C and reconstructed in 1838. (Another post to follow on the church.)

The walk took up up the hill behind the church, and then down again to look at the Ellez River, up another green lane with a hidden house and out on the track alongside Menez Meur. (There were quite a few ups and downs!)

It was that time of year and I think these were Amanita Muscaria and poisonous…

And in the middle of almost nowhere…

There was a curious little man on a corner of the church and I was reminded of the woodwose on the Church of St Mary in Cratfield, Suffolk. Perhaps just fanciful on my part..
