The day dawned grey and damp but I didn’t mind – I wanted to walk! So, guided by Wendy Mewes‘ excellent book and map in hand we set from Le Relecq on Walk no.5 of c.11 kms, and here.
The first part of the walk was past the Abbey lakes, and then through avenues of trees and along green lanes – we could have been in England.
And then you pop out on to the moors – it was misty and rain was in the air, but somehow we dodged the showers by sheltering under conveniently placed trees. It was exhilarating.
We met a lady picking heather flowers to be distilled for an essence which is good for urinary disorders. The small flowers on the left are the ‘good’ ones – not the opulent large pink ones.
There were considerable pine forests, and the wind in the trees was lonely. Sheltering under one group of trees I found a mushroom farm!
All the walking was along tracks apart from this lonely section of road with more distant views, albeit misty and rainy.

It does look quite like an English landscape…I like the sculptural deer feature…looks like aged gorse from the colour and shape.
