I woke feeling better, the drugs were definitely working! So we set off to explore the Crozon Peninsula and walk along the coast.The Térénez Bridge over the Aulne River was stunning! It reminded me of the Calatrava Bridge I had seen last autumn, in Galicia. We drove through narrow roads along the coast, with frequent views of river, sea, mist, cows – very pretty.
We parked in Camaret-sur-Mer and set off along the coastal path in company with lots of other people, all of us bent on enjoying the warm weather and wonderful views.
Saint-Pol-Roux (1861-1940) was a poet who settled in Camaret and built this manor house overlooking the sea.
And so back to Camaret sur Mer. Today this is a holiday resort but it wasn’t always so. The Tour Vauban overlooking the harbour was built in 1696 as part of the coastal defence system for France, protecting the harbours of Camaret and Brest. And in WWII the area was heavily fortified as part of the Atlantic Wall by the German army. Camaret was also France’s biggest crayfish and sardine port until the 1960s, but which time I assume there had been over-fishing.

It was a beautiful day! But the weekend in Suffolk was good too & I managed to replace the woody lavender with some new grasses.
