The first day in France – sitting at a café in Ouistreham opposite the bakery early in the morning and enjoying coffee and croissants – lovely!
The hotel was comfortable for a night and convenient for the ferry – I loved the plants outside. Then we set off for the first stop – a botanical garden.
I knew the Parc Botanique de Haute Bretagne was going to be special when the entrance was a tunnel of Hydrangea Paniculata and Cornus Controversa Variegata. And it was – spectacular – separate posts to follow!
After several hours in the gardens we needed a coffee stop in Combourg.
On the road again there was a somewhat sobering half hour when we came across two accidents in quick succession, with at least one fatality judging by the state of the car in the middle of the road.
Finally we arrived in Paimpol and the Hotel de la Marne, the destination for the night, with just enough time to see the sea before dinner.
