The Waterlink Way

The Waterlink Way is an 8 mile (12 km) path between Sydenham and the Thames, and it can be walked or cycled. (Large scale map.)

A walk along the Ravensbourne River is also the Waterlink Way until the middle of the River Pool Linear Park where the River Pool meets the Ravensbourne. At this point the Waterlink Way continues along the River Pool to Lower Sydenham. The river continues just beyond Elmers End railway station and is c.3 miles in length – I have not yet walked to the source but here is someone who did.

    This looks like it would be a lovely walk and give the impression that you were more in the countryside than London. Thanks for sharing.

        It is a great walk/run which you can add to by continuing towards Beckenham and then heading towards Beckenham Place Park and the Green Chain Walk. For me, it is a pretty safe route, (when fit) I run up and down it 3/4 times a week, the only problems I have ever had were from badly controlled dogs. It is probably safer than many parks.

        It does feel very different in different conditions though and the rough path that is alongside the river is very different to the cycle path, much more rural in feel.

        Hopefully one day they will take the Pool out of it s concrete channel that it is forced through in places.

        I picked up the Ravensbourne at Homebase in Catford and continued through Beckenham Place Park to Bromley, and hope to finish the last leg to Keston Ponds shortly. Then I will try to follow the River Pool, and there’s the Quaggy, which I know you have documented, and then there is the rest of London…! Thank you for visiting, pleased you are so much better

        Thanks. At some stage I will follow in your footsteps on the Ravensbourne, but there are still quite a few small tributaries of the Quaggy I want to trace first! The Beck arm of the Pool is relatively straightforward to follow through Beckenham and onto Spring Park and really attractive in places
