Travel in France – Gite in Cayre, Correze

posted in: France, Home | 0

For the first week of Travel in France we hired a Gîte de France which was in an idyllic setting and very comfortable. It was excellent value for money, and the owner had even baked a gateau aux pommes! As we came over the brow of the hill I couldn’t quite believe we were going to stay here for a week – I would certainly return, and I heartily recommend the gîte.

The weather during the week was variable and we only sat outside, at the table below, on two evenings. The building is an old barn, with a raised ramp into an upper floor  (below). It would be magnificent if the entire barn was restored!

Every day I tried to photograph the brimstone butterflies, but it was difficult because the light was so bright!

There are many roadside crosses in the Corrèze and there were two in the hamlet, and a standing stone.

Cayre is a very small, farming hamlet and although, oddly, I didn’t hear birds there were plenty of cows!

The setting was wonderful – it was beautiful at all times of the day, and in all weathers.
