The London Docks

The London Docks are no longer functioning dockyards, although the Shadwell Basin remains as a leisure centre for water sports. I returned to take photographs and to follow the remains of the lines of the Docks, using the information above, and Google maps. The historical information is in an earlier post.

There were three entries to the London Docks: Hermitage, Wapping, and Shadwell. Shadwell seems to have consisted of the London New Dock, and the Basin, each with separate entries to the Thames and the east dock. I am going to start at the Hermitage entry, and progress from west to east.

Parts of the surrounding walls remain in Wapping Lane, Reardon Street, and Tench Street:

The entry at Wapping is now a private garden and the lock is paved over.
